The Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act
The Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA) became law in 2010. The original Communications Act of 1934 was limited in its scope due to vast achievements in technology in the decades since it was signed, and the terms needed to be updated. President Obama signed this amendment to the original Act to ensure that all telecommunications innovations would be accessible to those with disabilities.
The CVAA has two parts:
1.Title I – Communications Access
2.Title II – Video Programming
As communications technology advances, so should the accessibility regulations. The CVAA lays out clear parameters for the types of communications technology they apply to and the necessary accessibility requirements. Some standard accommodations include video descriptions and closed captioning.
